Golden Gloves

He was a fighter.
This man I once knew;
he was proud and strong
like none I shall ever know.
He spoke to me
as only I understood.
He taught me to fight
for the place I stand on,
the air I breath
and when the bell rang
he stood at the ropes smiling
with thumbs up.
